Business Information and Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) Sussex
There are many different ways the Library Service can help new and established businesses, jobseekers and consumers. We offer a wealth of FREE online business resources that can help you to start your own business, build professional skills, connect with others, and grow.

The Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) Sussex is part of the British Library’s National Network of BIPCs across the UK.
The BIPC Brighton & Hove at Brighton Jubilee Library is the Sussex Regional Centre, with a BIPC Local at Crawley Library, West Sussex. In East Sussex, BIPC Locals at Eastbourne Library and Hastings Library, support entrepreneurs, start-up businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises in Sussex, from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and developing a business. .
The BIPC would like to inform you of the latest developments regarding the United States' tariff announcements made on 2 April, and to share official guidance and statements from HM Government.

Information and guidance for businesses is being hosted on great.gov.uk:US trade tariffs
Official Statements:
- The Secretary of State for Business and Trade has issued a statement regarding the US tariffs, along with a press releaseoutlining the UK Government's position and current negotiations.
- The release includes a Call for Input (CfI) inviting businesses to provide their views.
Tariff Details:
- For sector-specific tariff information, businesses should be directed to: Export goods from the UK: step by step – GOV.UK
- Please note that while the Check duties and customs procedures for exporting goods tool is not yet updated, tariffs on steel, aluminium, and automotive exports are now in effect. A 10% tariff on UK exports came into force at 00:01 EST on 5 April.
